Lone survivor

After watching hacksaw ridge (amazing movie) on netflix i had a recommendation called lone survivor come up based on true events starring Mark Wahlberg.
Four navy seals are sent into the hills of afgan to gain intelligence on a taliban leader so they can take him out. While on their mission they are found by 3 goat herders, the seals have to make a choice, kill them or let them go at the risk they will tell the taliban, they let them go and of course they run straight back to the taliban, from here all i can say is hell on earth breaks out. One of my favourite war films I've seen, Mark Wahlberg gives the performance of his life. 10/ 10.

Peter Berg made lots of good movies. Rundown, The Kingdom, Deepwater Horizon and this to name a few. Mile 22 though was his worst, second by Hancock.

IT 2017
Having always been a horror fan of film and books it was fair to say I was a tad excited to watch this movie, i grew up with Steven king books and films, especially the mini series of IT. admittedly when I was a kid the original scared me to death but it's fair to say it hasn't aged well at all so I welcomed a reimagining of the book. The first scene from the new IT is the famous sewer scene and my God did it deliver, Bill skarsgard nails it as pennywise and I couldn't wait for the rest of the movie. the losers club child actors are fantastic and funny throughout, it has a great stand by me vibe as in the kids have a fantastic on screen relationship. the film is a little to rushed in places and my main complaint is the heavy use of cgi on pennywise, he's much more menacing when he's just a normal clown trying to lure the kids instead of having a crappy cgi mouth full of massive teeth, I also wanted more dialogue from him, instead we had a lot of loud roaring noises! overall a brilliant adaptation of the book mainly down to the losers club and some genuinely creepy scenes but it didn't quite meet my high expectations. 71/ 2 out of 10.

No Escape.
watched this last night on Netflix, went in not knowing what it was about having never heard of it and I have to say it was probably the best thriller I've watched since Taken, highly recommended!

{Ed001's Note - is that the one with Owen Wilson and family stranded in some city that undergoes a revolution? Pierce Brosnan helping them? If so I enjoyed that too.}

that's the one ed, kept me on the edge of my sofa for the whole movie, never seen brosnan play a role like that before, not sure what I thought of his performance, I suppose it didn't really spoil the film good or bad!!

{Ed001's Note - I don't really know what else Brosnan has been in to be honest. Never seen his Bond films as I am not a big fan and didn't watch any between Moore and the recent reboots with Daniel Craig. For me he was ok in this, not outstanding or anything but certainly didn't make it worse.}

Going to see Get Out tonight, going in with high hopes as I've never seen reviews for a horror film so good for such a long time from critics who usually pan horror movies, I'll let you all know what i thought tomorrow.

Well that was certainly different!!I wouldn't class it as a horror film at all,I'm not really sure what to class it as!it has a bit of everything but mainly a lot of weirdness and comedy which fitted in with the film perfectly.it's difficult to say much about the film without giving it away.Basically a black guy and his white girlfriend go to visit her parents for the weekend who basically use black people for all sorts of weird reasons and that's about all I can say without spoilers,id definitely recommend this even if it's just for the comedy and for how weirdly different it is!sorry if I've waffled on I think my brain is still a bit fried!

It was an excellent movie and I understand the director of the film wanted to make a statement with the theme, particularly in the current political climate.

Just got home from watching rogue one, nothing else to say but utterly amazing! at the moment I want to say it's the greatest star wars film ever but I'm still on a high so that judgement might change when I calm down from all the excitement!

Haizan, if you loved chaser I highly recommend 'I saw the devil', I'd also recommend it for you as well ed001, it definitely has its horror elements but don't let that put you off as some of the martial arts scenes are stunning but extremely brutal.

{Ed001's Note - cheers wiggy I will look out for that mate.}

I agree Haizan there's no way I would consider this a horror movie, I left the cinema with mixed feelings, mainly really annoyed as it wasn't what I expected or wanted to see but at the end of the day it was following the book, the CGI was horrible and way over the top imo which ruined the movie for me. The 1st chapter was 10 times better and even that wasn't great. 4/10

The other thing that spoilt it for me was the ott use of cgi on pennywise,there was just no need for it and made him more funny than frightening. I also wanted more dialogue from pennywise,the sewer scene with georgie was really menacing but apart from that we didn't get that side of him again,just a few words here and there. I personally liked the finale and i loved the casting for the losers club but like you say their character development seemed very rushed. I did enjoy the film but because my expectations were so high i felt a bit underwhelmed by it.
